KCDT, an Economic Empowerment initiative under the Diocese of Kericho, has been transforming lives through its Savings and Credit program since 2016. What began with just 11 groups of 288 members has flourished into a vibrant community of 67 groups of 1,917 members. Over the years, the savings portfolio has risen steeply from KES 46,850 in 2016 to an impressive KES 27,200,000 in 2024. This remarkable growth has empowered members to establish small to medium enterprises including both crop and livestock farming. As a result, families are thriving, with children benefiting from school fees, better housing, enhanced livelihoods, and improved food security. To further amplify this success, the program is now dignified to transition into a Sacco, paving the way for even greater opportunities and community development.
This memorable occasion was graced by the Bishop of the Diocese of Kericho “Today, we gather to celebrate a significant milestone in our journey of empowerment and growth. The transition of our beloved Kericho Community Development Trust (KCDT) into a Cooperative Society - Neema Talents SACCO—marks not just a structural change, but a powerful commitment to uplift each other through shared resources and aspirations”. He reminded all that the key to success is integrity and hard work. He cautioned members against the love for easy money, shortcuts, and the love for free things.
The event brought together a diverse group of esteemed guests who took the stage to reflect on the remarkable journey of the savings and credit group, from its humble beginnings to its current successes. Attendees were inspired by personal success stories and heartfelt testimonials. Among the distinguished guests were the CEO of Five Talents Kenya, managers from Imani SACCOs in Nakuru and Baringo, the Chairman of KCDT, and the Co-operative Officer from the County Government of Kericho. Special recognition was given to Five Talents Kenya for their unwavering support, having funded KCDT for seven transformative years, ultimately empowering them to achieve financial independence and self-sustainability.
Following the exhilarating unveiling of the SACCO’s new branding, the Chairman was ceremoniously presented with the SACCO’s Certificate of Registration and Constitution by the Kericho County Cooperative Officer. This vibrant and memorable occasion signified the beginning of an exciting and transformative journey ahead, marking a crucial milestone in the SACCO’s growth and future success.
