OLOPI Compassion Project caregivers receive support to boost their livelihoods
5th November 2025! joy and optimism filled the air at ACK Ebenezer olopikidongoe Church Compound as members of Namayiana Self-Help Group gathered to receive a brand-new tent and a financial boost from the Olopikidongoe Compassion Project.

The support, worth Ksh 100,000, was extended as an interest-free revolving loan to empower the 22-member group in scaling up their Income Generating Activities (IGAs) and promoting self-reliance.
The group, which has been practicing table banking and internal lending, identified the tent business as a high-demand venture due to the growing trend of ceremonies such as weddings, church functions, and community meetings within the area. The newly acquired tent, which has a capacity of 300 people, together with the existing 50 chairs, positions the group strategically to tap into this local market opportunity.

“This tent will not only help us generate income but also bring stability to our households,” said one of the group members with a smile. “With this, we can support our families better and ensure our children’s needs are met.”

Economic empowerment is a cornerstone of sustainable community development. It equips individuals and groups with the capacity to generate income, make independent financial decisions, and improve their living standards. For caregivers like those in Namayiana SHG, such empowerment translates directly into better nutrition, education, and healthcare for their children — ensuring that no child is left behind due to poverty.

ADS South Rift, in partnership with Compassion International, continues to play a vital role in strengthening community-based structures across Transmara. Through initiatives like these, the partnership aims to reduce dependency, promote financial literacy, and create avenues for local entrepreneurship among caregivers.

The ripple effects of such empowerment are already visible. Families are able to pay school fees on time, provide balanced meals, and access health services with dignity. In essence, empowered caregivers create an environment where children can thrive holistically — physically, mentally, and spiritually.
The Namayiana Self-Help Group’s story is a shining example of how strategic economic empowerment initiatives can transform lives
